Understanding the SSC Grading System (Bangladesh Education Board)
The SSC grading system uses a Grade Point Average (GPA) and a Grade Letter system. The GPA is a numerical value that represents your overall academic performance. Here is the official chart:
| Class Interval (Marks) | Letter Grade | Grade Point (GP) |
|---|---|---|
| 80-100 | A+ | 5.00 |
| 70-79 | A | 4.00 |
| 60-69 | A- | 3.50 |
| 50-59 | B | 3.00 |
| 40-49 | C | 2.00 |
| 33-39 | D | 1.00 |
| 0-32 | F (Fail) | 0.00 |
How the GPA is Calculated
The calculation is based on your grades in all mandatory and optional subjects. This is the simple formula the calculator uses:
GPA = (Total Points of All Mandatory Subjects) / (Number of Mandatory Subjects)
There are two crucial rules you should know:
The F Grade Rule
If you get an ‘F’ grade in any subject, your total GPA for that subject will be 0.00, and your overall GPA will be **0.00**, regardless of how well you did in other subjects. You must pass all mandatory subjects to get a GPA above 0.00.
The Optional Subject Rule
For your optional subject, the points from your grade are not fully counted. The rule is that you must subtract 2 points from your optional subject’s grade point. The lowest possible point you can get from your optional subject is 0.
For example, if you get an A+ (5.00) in your optional subject, only 3.00 points will be added to your total ($5.00 – 2 = 3.00$). If you get an A (4.00), 2.00 points will be added ($4.00 – 2 = 2.00$). If you get a C (2.00) or below, 0 points will be added.
Note: The total number of mandatory subjects is 9. The calculator divides your total adjusted points by 9 to provide your final GPA.
